A year ago in February, it became clear that COVID was on the way. I also realized that the best hope for health was, as I put it then, a robust immune system. Two weeks later, a month before the shutdowns started, we isolated ourselves, shunning restaurants, stores, and all outside personal contact. Our employers graciously sent us, and most of our co-workers, home on paid absences for most of 2020. They strategically decided to keep their assets safe for the long term rather than risk losing us by attrition to disease in the short term. We have been very fortunate.
We remain healthy as rocks. Today, I got my first of two shots after going through perfectly ridiculous online gymnastics to get an appointment. Denise is not far behind me.
I am not naturally an optimistic person. I prefer to think of myself as a stoic realist. It is beginning to look like there is light at the end of the tunnel…..barring a virulent COVID variant.
